Your father should see his primary care provider or a wound care provider for evaluation of the wounds and proper treatment of the infection.  At home, he should work to control his blood sugar with a goal of less than 150 to aid in wound healing.  It is also important to avoid pressure on foot wounds.  This can often be accomplished by obtaining an offloading wound shoe.  His health care provider can help him to obtain a shoe.  Increasing lean protein in his diet, from sources such as chicken and fish, can also aid in wound healing.
