Diabetics have poor wound healing due to poor circulation. Also, if their blood sugars are not well-controlled, this can also affect healing. People who are diabetic and have wounds that are not healing are at high risk for infection, which may explain the chills. They are also at high risk for serious complications, which may lead to serious infections and possible amputation. I would recommend you see a wound specialist and possibly undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy to get this wound to heal as soon as possible, as well as the patient may need some antibiotics.

Achilles Tendon -1 answer
I ruptured my achilles and had the repair surgery. 13 days later my wound opened up. Initially the cultures grew 3 types of bacteria. I had a three-week antibiotic regimen. After two surgeries for debridement and covering of the wound with Integra the tendon was no longer visible, but the wound wouldn't close. I'm not diabetic nor do I smoke. The skin graft failed. The doctor just ordered an MRI wondering if there's a deep pocket of infection with possible exploratory surgery.
